Sharon Hospital has been designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the State of Connecticut. The Department of Public Health recognizes Sharon Hospital’s commitment & ability to care for stroke patients at the highest level. Our multidisciplinary approach to stroke care includes emergency medical & neurological care, physical, occupational & speech therapy, social services as well as an on-going stroke support group. When minutes matter, the stroke team at Sharon Hospital is ready to care for you — 24/7.
The Primary Stroke Center at Sharon Hospital has a team of professionals who are dedicated to providing quality care to those who have suffered from a stroke. Some of the team members are specially trained physicians, nurses, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists, and social workers. Together, each discipline helps to diagnose, prevent, and treat strokes.
The stroke team is readily available and able to provide evaluation and treatment for stroke patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the Emergency Department. The new Emergency Department at Sharon Hospital allows the stroke team to provide state-of-the-art care.
There are many measures performed by the various members of the stroke team at Sharon Hospital to help diagnose a stroke. Neurological exams, cardiology services to measure heart activity, radiology services with various imaging techniques such as MRI/MRA and CT scans and blood tests are some of the measures used by the team to confirm or rule out a stroke.
